Our History

WE LOOK FORWARD TO MAKING YOUR STRATHALLAN EXPERIENCE AN UNFORGETTABLE ONE.

The Strathallan DoubleTree by Hilton is a famous hotel in Rochester. It is also the location of Char Steak & Lounge. During the winter of 2015 the owners added a 9th floor and opened Hattie's Restaurant in June 2015 with outdoor rooftop dining, as well as additional event space. The entire area is glass enclosed showing full views of the city and surrounding area.
The site was originally one of East Avenue's grand Victorian mansions. Alas, the mansion was torn down in the 1970s, when the Strathallan was built as senior housing. It was finally converted to a 157-room hotel in 1979.

In 2015, the owners acquired the Century Club of Rochester to manage events for the club as well as for the hotel.

In 2016, the owner opened the Strathallan Spa, which became the Ape & Canary.

We are dedicated to making your Strathallan experience an unforgettable one.

This rooftop bar is one of a kind. A blend of modern and traditional, this incredible 9th floor space is replete with tufted leather booths, mahogany-paneled walls, chandelier-adorned ceilings, and massive windows and an outdoor space to take in the fantastic view. Our quartz-trimmed bar offers an extensive menu of whiskeys and tequilas, exceptional Rochester craft beers on draft, and cocktails that are as authentic as they are artful. There’s also a rooftop fire pit to take in the fresh air and views. Surrounding this amazing 9th floor experience is a wraparound patio on which to take in the amazing 360-degree vistas of Rochester and the surrounding foothills.

The Century Club of Rochester

On January 6, 1910, the City of Rochester granted a charter to a group of perceptive women who desired to establish a club that would offer educational, cultural, and social opportunities. The Club first began meeting in a suite of three rooms at the imperial Powers Hotel located in the heart of downtown Rochester. Heralded upon its completion as the “safest and most palatial hotel in America" this seven-story structure became a renowned hub of culture and commerce during this time. The founding members of the Century Club gathered here, sharing varying backgrounds, ages, and life experiences—a tradition of diversity that continues to this day.

Today, the Century Club continues to thrive, keeping abreast of the times and the evolving interests of our member base. The Club has expanded its horizons and will gracefully adapt to an ever-changing world. However, what remains constant is our respect for our predecessors, a spirit of oneness and cooperation, and our recognition of individual and mutual responsibility to better our community.
